Andorra and Austria sign double taxation agreement to strengthen legal certainty

The Principality of Andorra and the Republic of Austria have recently signed an agreement to avoid double taxation on income and wealth taxes, marking a further step in strengthening economic and fiscal relations between both countries. The signing took place in Vienna during the official visit of the Head of Government of Andorra, Xavier Espot, accompanied by an Andorran institutional delegation.

The meeting between Xavier Espot and the Federal Chancellor of Austria, Christian Stocker, helped to reinforce bilateral relations and open new avenues of cooperation between both countries.

The main objective of the agreement is to prevent individuals and legal entities with economic interests in both states from being subject to double taxation on the same income or assets. It also introduces mechanisms aimed at preventing tax evasion and avoidance, in line with international standards promoted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

According to the Government of Andorra, the agreement will help improve legal certainty for companies and investors, facilitating commercial and economic relations between both countries. It will also provide a more predictable tax framework for cross-border activities, reducing potential conflicts of interpretation and taxation.

The signing of this agreement is part of Andorra’s strategy to expand its network of international tax agreements. In recent years, the Principality has promoted the negotiation and signing of double taxation agreements with numerous European countries and other regions, consolidating its integration into international standards of transparency and tax cooperation.

The agreement with Austria must now complete the internal ratification procedures in both countries before entering into force. Once this process is completed, its provisions will apply in accordance with the deadlines set out in the agreement itself.
